Daily Verses Everyday! Day 7
“And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.”
Once again, we see the same pattern: God speaks, His Word commands, and it comes to be. What we must observe, however, is that God did not create living creatures randomly or without purpose. Each was formed with intention and design.
Jesus reminds us of this truth in Matthew 6:26: “Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.” In other words, the same God who spoke animals into existence also sustains them. Creation is not only ordered but also cared for by its Maker. Every creature, from the greatest beast to the smallest creeping thing, bears witness to a God of both power and provision.
This truth should stir both humility and trust within us. If God so carefully provides for the creatures of the Earth, who neither plan nor labor in the ways we do, how much more will He provide for those created in His image? Fortunately, Jesus answers this for us if we continue to Matthew 6:27–30, “Which one of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?”
Here, Jesus points us back to creation itself as a living sermon. The birds and flowers preach to us without words. They testify to God’s sustaining hand, declaring that our lives are not held together by our anxious striving but by His faithful care.
If God takes such care to adorn something as temporary as grass or to feed birds that neither plant nor reap, then we can be assured of His tender care for all creation. Yet, Scripture reminds us that His concern for humanity carries a unique weight, for we are made in His image, redeemed by His Son, and destined for eternal fellowship with Him.
This passage connects beautifully to this verse. Just as God created living creatures with intentionality and sustains them with His ongoing provision, so too He invites us to rest in the reality that our lives are held in His hands. We are not random; we are not forgotten. Creation is not simply evidence of God’s power but also of His providence. So when we see the beasts of the field, the creeping things on the ground, or even the sparrow in the sky, we should be reminded: if God provides for them, how much more will He provide for us? Our call is not to worry but to trust.
If you would like to explore Genesis in a sustained, verse-by-verse way with space to reflect, journal, and trace how these foundational truths unfold through Scripture the Verse by Verse book expands these reflections into a unified reading experience. The book gathers these meditations into a structured journey through Genesis, designed to help readers linger in the text and engage God’s Word more deeply over time.
