Daily Verses Everyday! Day 28
“And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.”
And now, we are able to see the full picture leading us up to Noah:
Adam – born in 0 HC, lived for 930 years, died in 930 HC.
Seth – born in 130 HC, lived for 912 years, died in 1042 HC.
Enos – born in 235 HC, lived for 905 years, died in 1140 HC.
Cainan – born in 325 HC, lived for 910 years, died in 1235 HC.
Mahalaleel – born in 395 HC, lived for 895 years, died in 1290 HC.
Jared – born in 460 HC, lived for 962 years, died in 1422 HC.
Enoch – born in 622 HC, lived for 365 years, did not die (God took him) in 987 HC.
Methuselah – born in 687 HC, lived for 969 years, died in 1656 HC.
Lamech – born in 874 HC, lived for 777 years, died in 1651 HC.
Noah – born in 1056 HC, lived for 600 years; in 1656 HC, he witnessed the destruction of all life on Earth except those preserved in his boat.
This chronological overview highlights the remarkable overlaps of lifespans, showing how knowledge, faith, and the witness of God’s works could be transmitted across generations.
Adam, the first man, lived to see the birth of many of his descendants, including Enoch and Methuselah, linking the beginning of humanity directly to the critical events leading to the Flood. The genealogy emphasizes continuity, the preservation of the chosen line through Seth, and God’s providential hand in guiding history toward redemption. By the time Noah is born in 1056 HC, he is not entering a world unaware of God’s works because he is surrounded by living witnesses who experienced centuries of divine faithfulness, wisdom, and human frailty.
This also shows that despite the multiplication of sin and spread of corruption, God’s plan unfolds with precision. The extraordinary lifespans allow for instruction, observation, and preparation. Noah’s arrival at this precise moment is no accident; it is the culmination of generations walking under God’s oversight, resulting in the coming of a man uniquely prepared to fulfill God’s judgment and preservation plan.
If you would like to explore Genesis in a sustained, verse-by-verse way with space to reflect, journal, and trace how these foundational truths unfold through Scripture the Verse by Verse book expands these reflections into a unified reading experience. The book gathers these meditations into a structured journey through Genesis, designed to help readers linger in the text and engage God’s Word more deeply over time.
