Genesis 6:8 Daily Devotional & Meaning – Noah Finds Grace in the Eyes of the Lord

Daily Verses Everyday! Day 30

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

In the midst of God’s sorrow that the last two verses have shown us, He looked and still saw Noah. The God who is above everything, the Creator who had every right to wipe His creation away entirely, set His eyes on the one man who still loved Him. For the sake of that one man, God devised a plan of salvation that would not only preserve Noah and his family but also cause humanity to prosper again through him. This verse introduces one of the most profound themes in all of Scripture: grace.

Notice the wording carefully: it does not say that Noah earned God’s favor or that Noah’s works were enough to escape judgment. Instead, it says Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Grace is always God’s initiative, His undeserved favor reaching out in mercy when judgment is fully deserved. Noah, though faithful and righteous, was still a sinner like us (as later stories about him show). Yet, in His mercy, God chose to extend grace, and that grace became the means of salvation for Noah, his family, and, ultimately, the future of all humanity.

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8 that God is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” That means the same God who saw Noah in a sea of corruption and evil also sees us today. This gives us profound hope. When we feel surrounded by sin, whether in the culture around us or in the struggles within our own hearts, God’s eyes are not blind to those who turn to Him. He sees, He knows, and He extends grace.

For so many years, I was lost because I wanted to please everyone around me. No matter how hard I tried, I was never enough. My worth was measured by the shifting standards of people, and it left me empty. But then I came to realize that the God who saw Noah is the same God who sees me. His gaze is not one of disappointment or rejection but of grace. And that same truth applies to you no matter where you are right now, no matter what you’ve done, He sees you too.

For many years, my wife felt the weight of this truth in her own way. She often looked at the world around her and at the paths people were following, and deep in her heart, she knew something was missing. She carried that conviction quietly, sensing there had to be more than the traditions and fleeting promises that surrounded her. And the same God who looked upon Noah with grace saw her. It was through a dream that He revealed Himself to her. In that moment, she knew the God she had been seeking—the God who is real, who is holy, who is full of love—was reaching out to her personally. That encounter changed her life, but it also changed mine as we both found God together.

Each of us are sheep of a Shepherd who knows our names personally. And in His time, He will reveal Himself personally, for he sees you in the midst of the chaos.

If you would like to explore Genesis in a sustained, verse-by-verse way with space to reflect, journal, and trace how these foundational truths unfold through Scripture the Verse by Verse book expands these reflections into a unified reading experience. The book gathers these meditations into a structured journey through Genesis, designed to help readers linger in the text and engage God’s Word more deeply over time.
