Genesis 7:5 Daily Devotional & Meaning – Noah’s Complete Obedience to God

Daily Verses Everyday! Day 34

“And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.”

And just like Genesis chapter 6:22, it is simply stated that Noah did what God told him to do. This brief, almost matter-of-fact statement carries a profound depth of meaning when considered carefully. It is not just a historical note or a casual remark; it encapsulates the character, faith, and obedience of Noah in a world that had largely turned away from God. In the context of Genesis, Noah’s actions contrast sharply with the corruption and violence that had become pervasive on the Earth. While humanity at large was engaged in sin and rebellion, Noah is depicted as a man whose heart was aligned with God’s commands, who acted with unwavering obedience despite the daunting and seemingly impossible task before him.

The phrase “did according unto all that the LORD commanded him” emphasizes completeness and fidelity. Noah is a living example of what 1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us to do: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Noah’s adherence to God’s instructions reflects the very essence of living a life devoted to God’s glory. By carrying out God’s commands fully, he demonstrates that obedience is not a partial or selective endeavor; it encompasses every aspect of life, both ordinary and extraordinary.

In Noah’s case, building the ark, gathering the animals, and preparing provisions were not mundane tasks; rather, they were acts of worship and trust, performed in response to God’s direct guidance. This illustrates that true obedience transforms even practical, everyday actions into offerings that honor God.

Moreover, Noah’s example challenges believers to consider the depth of their own commitment. It is easy to claim faith in God when circumstances are favorable, but Noah’s obedience required courage, perseverance, and absolute trust. He acted in a world that mocked or ignored his efforts, yet he remained steadfast. This mirrors the call found in James 1:22, which commands believers, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Noah did not merely hear God’s instructions; no, he executed them faithfully, demonstrating that authentic faith manifests through action. His life reminds us that faith without effort is incomplete; obedience is the tangible expression of trust in God’s promises and character.
