Daily Verses Everyday! Day 45
“And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:”
In this verse, God displays when exactly the rainbow will appear directly after the rain. The rainbow is not random nor is it simply a natural accident of light and water. It is appointed by God, tied to His covenant, and set to appear in the very moment when humanity would most need reassurance.
Think about it: when the storm has just passed, when the clouds still linger, when the Earth is wet with rain and the memory of judgment is fresh, that is when the bow shines. God intentionally designed the rainbow to be seen after the storm so His people, then and now, would be reminded of His promise.
This is very much like the love of a man who deeply cherishes his wife. When he gives her a wedding ring, the ring is not just jewelry; it is a sign. Its value is not in the gold itself but in what it represents: a lifelong covenant, a vow of faithfulness, a promise that love will endure through every season. The purpose behind that ring is that every morning, when you wake up and see it on your finger, you are reminded of the choice you made to love, to honor, to remain faithful.
And here’s the deeper truth: love, in the context of covenant, is not merely an emotion that comes and goes like the weather. Love is a daily decision. Some days, that decision feels light and joyful, almost effortless. Other days, it feels heavy and tested by trials, disagreements, or hardships. But the presence of the ring reminds both husband and wife as you are bound by something greater than feeling. You are bound by covenant.
That is exactly what God does with the rainbow. It is as if He is giving creation a wedding ring. Every time the storm passes and the bow appears, He is saying, “Remember what I promised. Remember My covenant. Remember that My love for you is not swayed by the storm, not undone by judgment, not weakened by your weakness. My love endures.” Just as the ring reminds a husband to choose love for his wife every day, the rainbow reminds us that God has already chosen mercy toward humanity and will continue to honor His covenant.
This also teaches us something about how we walk with God. Following Him is not about relying on fleeting feelings of passion or bursts of spiritual excitement. It is about choosing daily through prayer, through obedience, through acts of love, to walk in covenant relationship with Him. Some days that choice feels easy, filled with joy and gratitude. Other days, it is a battle of the will, requiring perseverance and faith.
But just like the ring reminds the husband of his vow, and the rainbow reminds us of God’s promise, our covenant with the Lord calls us to actively choose Him each day. The beauty of it all is that God never asks us to do what He Himself does not model. He does not make promises lightly. He does not love us when it’s easy and abandon us when it’s hard. His covenant love is steadfast, enduring through every storm.
The rainbow proves this truth: that His mercy triumphs over judgment, His faithfulness triumphs over fear, and His promise shines brighter than the darkest cloud.
So, the next time you see a rainbow, let it be more than a moment of admiration. Let it be a reminder of covenant love, the kind that is chosen daily, faithfully, and sacrificially. Just as a ring binds a man and woman together in unbreakable love, the bow in the sky binds God’s heart to His creation in unshakable mercy.
